Oilers Begin Outdoor Season at Wake Forest Open

The University of Findlay men and women track and field teams traveled to Winston-Salem, N.C. to open up the 2016 outdoor season to compete in the Wake Forest Open.  The Wake Forest Open featured hundreds of athletes from various institutions in all the NCAA athletic divisions.  Many events featured around fifty competitors.

Women

Senior Erica Bettac claimed 6th in the 3000 meter steeplechase after she recorded a time of 11:50.67.

In the 5000 meter run, sophomore Taylor Bolinger (18:54.77) finished 33rd and senior Meredith Hoops (19:08.27) captured 38th.

Senior McKenzie Mahlmeister placed 62nd in the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:29.38.

Women Throws

In the shot put, sophomore Alex DeVincentis earned 1st place and met the NCAA provisional mark with a throw of 15.20m, junior Liz Streacker claimed 8th and provo'd with a toss of 13.66m, freshman Holly Averesch finished 14th after a heave of 13.01m and freshman Sabrina Bailey placed 26th after a distance of 11.30m.

In the hammer throw, Streacker claimed 1st place and met the NCAA provisional (56.11m), junior Erica King earned 2nd and provo'd (56.05m), DeVincentis placed 12th (47.02m), Averesch ended up 32nd (38.12m) and Bailey finished 34th (37.66).

Men

In the 100 meter dash prelims, freshman Jaye Williams just missed the qualifying mark after he finished 12th with a time of 10.8 and freshman Jordan Davis finished 45th after recording a time of 11.45.

Davis also competed in the triple jump and placed 24th after covering a distance of 12.26m.

Freshman Michael Dolinar ended up in 12th in the pole vault competition after clearing a height of 3.49m.

In the 1500 meter run, sophomore Matias Trampe-Kindt captured 10th with a time of 4:04.52

Freshman George Bauer placed 40th (51.24) in the 400 meter dash and freshman Troy Schultz (52.09) claimed 47th.

In the 3000 meter steeplechase, freshman Austin Guthrie earned 11th with a time of 10:27.72 and junior Aaron Cingle finished 12th with a time of 10:36.66.

Men Throws

In the shot put, junior Ben Hahler earned 10th with a toss of 15.56m, freshman Austin Combs claimed 15th with a 14.86m heave, senior Parker Schroeder placed 19th with a throw of 14.19m and freshman Jordan Brown finished 37th with a distance of 9.33m.

In the hammer throw, Hahler claimed 13th (48.66m), junior Mitch Adkins earned 15th (47.20m), Combs finished 16th (46.56m) and sophomore Garrett Gardner placed 17th (46.25m).

The Oilers return to the track on Saturday, March 19th for day two of the Wake Forest Open.  Field events are scheduled to begin at 9am with running events beginning at 11am.  Be sure to check out the athletics webpage for live stats throughout the meet.
