Track Earns 22 All-Region Awards

Findlay, OH – On Wednesday, May 18, the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) release their all-region winners for the 2016 outdoor season. The University of Findlay track and field team had 13 athletes receive a total of 22 awards. The 22 awards are the same amount earned by Oilers athletes a year ago.

To be named all-region, an athlete must be in the top-5 of an individual event in the region or be part of a top-3 relay team.

On the men's side, senior Michael Bruce was the only winner of multiple awards as he collected all-Midwest honors in both the long jump and triple jump. Rounding out the all-Midwest performers for the men are juniors Ben Hahler (shot put) and Trey Everett (high jump).

The women's team collected 18 awards as a group with senior Maud Sanmiquel leading the way with four all-Midwest awards. Her honors came in the 100 meter hurdles, 400 meter hurdles, 4x100 meter relay, and 4x400 meter relay.

Sophomore Milani Glass earned a trio of honors as she was tabbed all-region in the 100 meter hurdles, 4x100 meter relay, and 4x400 meter relay.

Athletes that earned two awards each are junior Alex DeVincentis (shot put, discus), senior Samantha Grippe (800 meter run, 4x400 meter relay), and senior Lydia Guagenti (high jump, heptathlon).

Others named all-region include freshman Symphony Cooke (4x100 meter relay), sophomore Laura Hernandez (4x400 meter relay), junior Erica King (hammer throw), freshman Madison Stechshulte (4x100 meter relay), and junior Liz Streacker (hammer throw).

Both teams will send athletes to the NCAA DII National Championship in Bradenton, Florida on May 26-28. For that list of athletes with their best times, click HERE.
