Oilers Compete at Tiffin Open

The University of Findlay track and field teams traveled to Tiffin University on Saturday, January 21 for the Tiffin Dragon Open.

Men Results

A pair of Oilers claimed the top two spots in the 400 meter dash.  Senior Sergi Torres earned 1st with a time of 49.45 and junior George Effah placed 2nd at the 49.53 mark. Senior Derek Collins also competed in the event and earned 5th with a time of 51.05.

Effah also competed in the 200 meter dash and placed 5th after clocking in at the 22.65 mark.

Junior Trey Everett won the high jump after clearing a height of 1.75m.

Sophomore Troy Schultz collected 2nd in the 800 meter run after finishing at 2:03.69.

In the shot put, senior Ben Hahler claimed 2nd and met the NCAA provisional mark with a throw of 16.93m.

Four Oilers finished in the top ten of the weight throw.  Sophomore Austin Combs earned 2nd and met the NCAA provisional mark with a throw of 19.56m, senior Mitch Adkins placed 5th with a toss of 16.39m, senior Garrett Gardner collected 6th with a heave of 15.39m and freshman Javian Martin finished 10th with a distance of 13.94m.

Freshman Lenell Shelby III earned 2nd and met the NCAA provisional mark in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.10 and freshman Clint Recker finished 4th coming in at the 8.76 mark.

Sophomore Jaye Williams claimed 5th in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.97.

Women Results

Three Oilers claimed the top three spots in the 60 meter dash.  Junior Milani Glass earned 1st with a time of 7.80, Semoy Hemmings placed 2nd at the 8.05 mark and junior Laura Hernandez collected 3rd finishing with a time of 8.09.

Hernandez and Glass also performed well in the 200 meter dash with Hernandez earning 2nd (25.96) and Glass finished 3rd (26.06).

Four Oilers finished in the top seven of the 800 meter run.  Freshman Jenna Shipman led the way with a 3rd place finish (2:30.49), freshman Madisen Borer earned 5th (2:33.62), junior Claire Crum placed 6th (2:34.53) and freshman Aubreah Manns finished 7th (2:35.02).

Shipman also captured 3rd in the long jump with a distance of 5.04m.

In the shot put a handful of Oilers showcased their strength. Tynelle Gumbs (3rd|13.13m), sophomore Sabrina Bailey (4th|12.66m), sophomore Hannah Hahler (5th|12.57m) and sophomore Holly Averesch (6th|12.56m) all finished within the top six.

The weight throw featured another group of Oilers finishing in the top ten.  Tynelle Gumbs' toss landed her an automatic qualifying spot in the NCAA National Championship meet. Her toss of 20.23m gave her first place and it is currently the third best throw in the country.

Senior Erica King (2nd|18.20m) and senior Liz Streacker (5th|17.56m) met the NCAA provisional mark in the weight throw.

Trevia Gumbs (7th|16.30m), senior Alex DeVincentis (8th|15.71) and Bailey (9th|15.09) also competed in the weight throw.

The Oilers return to the track on Friday, January 27 when they will host the Findlay Classic and Elite Throws.
