Eleven Track Athletes Earn All-Region
New Orleans, LA – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the all-region honorees for the 2016-17 NCAA Division II indoor track and field season on Feb. 27. The Findlay men had six athletes earn all-region honors while the women had five.
In order to earn all-region, an athlete had to be ranked in the top five in the region in his or her respective event or had to be a member of a relay team that was ranked in the top three in the region.
On the men's side, senior Trey Everett brought home the most hardware, earning all-region in three events. He picked up his second consecutive all-region award for the high jump and earned the award for the first time in both the long jump and the heptathlon, the event in which Everett won a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) title.
The 4x400 meter relay team of senior Derek Collins, junior George Effah, freshman Lenell Shelby, and senior Sergi Torres. Their best time this season was a 3:14.71 which they ran at the Valentine Invitational in Boston. Both Effah and Torres also earned all-region in the individual 400 meter.
Senior Ben Hahler earned the second indoor shot put all-region award of his career with a season-best throw of 59'2.75" at the GLIAC Championship Meet this past weekend. Hahler, who earned all-region in his sophomore season, has qualified for the NCAA DII National Championship in the event in each of the previous two seasons.
For the women, senior Alex DeVincentis picked up all-region honors in the shot put for the second year in a row. Her season-best came on Jan. 13 at the Northwest Ohio Invitational where she had a throw of 49'6.5".
Junior Milani Glass earned her way into all-region contention with a time of 8.54 in the 60 meter hurdles at the GLIAC Championship meet. It is the first indoor all-region award of her career.
The same is true for throwers senior Erica King, junior Trevia Gumbs, and junior Tynelle Gumbs, who all earned all-region in the weight throw.
