Multiple Records on Second Day of Oiler Opener
The University of Findlay men's and women's track and field teams competed at the 2017 Oilers Opener in the Malcolm Athletic Center in Findlay, Ohio on December 9.
Men
Senior Trey Everett took first in the 60 meter hurdles section of the heptathlon with a time of 8.61 and eventually earned a first place finish in the event with a new personal best, school record, and automatic qualifying score of 5383. The mark is also a new Malcolm Athletic Center fieldhouse record surpassing the mark of 5189 set in 2008.
In the men's shot put, the Oilers took the top three spots led by junior Dequan Lovell who had a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) record and a provisional qualifying throw of 17.36m (56-11.50). Coming in second was junior Austin Combs, whose longest throw measured 16.85m (55-03.50), which set a new personal record and also is a provisional qualifying throw. Taking third was sophomore Javian Martin who had a throw of 14.8m (48-06.75).
Freshman Jacob Montag took first place in the pole vault, reaching a height of 4.40m (14-05.25).
In the 400 meter dash, Senior George Effah earned a first place finish with a time of 48.49. The time is a provisional qualifying time and also set a new league record.
Freshman Daniel Agbola ran a 1:23.85 in the 600 meter run to earn first place.
Sophomore Lenell Shelby III earned a first place finish in the 300 meter dash with a time of 35.45. He later took second place in the 60 meter dash with a new person best time of 6.96. In the final event of the day, Shelby teamed up with Effah, Jaye Williams, and Zach Jellison in the 4x400 meter relay. They took second place with a time of 3:27.62.
In the men's long jump, junior Khalil Capers took second place and reached a distance of 6.77m (22-02.50), which sets a new personal best.
Women
Findlay took three of the top four spots in the women's shot put, led by senior Alex DeVincentis who had a throw of 14.91m (48-11.00). The distance gave her a first place finish and set a new conference record. Coming in third place was junior Holly Averesch who had a throw that distanced 12.84m (42-01.50). Finishing just behind her was junior Sabrina Bailey who earned fourth place with a throw of 11.78m (38-07.75).
In the women's 400 meter dash, sophomore Semoy Hemmings took first place with a time of 58.83.
Senior Milani Glass took second place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.77.
