Findlay Opens Indoor Season with Oiler Opener
Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay men's and women's track and field team opened up their 2019-20 indoor season hosting the Oiler Opener on Saturday, Dec. 7.
Women
With her shot put throw of 13.93m, Hannah Hahler met the NCAA provisional mark in the event. She placed second overall in the event.
Pole vaulters Morgan England, (3.84m), Lindsey Kluesener, (3.74m), and Meadow Cromer, (3.59m), all reached the NCAA provisional mark in the event. England placed first, Kluesener placed second, and Cromer placed fourth. England and Kluesener both eclipsed the Findlay school record in the event, which was set last season by Cromer.
Alexa Fries finished in first place in the high jump, as she reached the heights of 1.63m, just 0.04m shy of the NCAA provisional mark. Brooke Mangas finished in second place, as she jumped 1.58m.
Simone Green won the long jump with a jump of 5.43m. Green also won the triple jump with a mark of 10.90m.
Carlee Siefker placed in second behind Green in both the long jump and triple jump. Her long jump was a distance of 5.34m, while her triple jump extended to a distance of 10.27m.
Jenna Shipman, competing as an unattached athlete, got first place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.32. Rylee Sybert finished right behind Shipman in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.48, which gave her second place. Sybert also finished in second place in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.06.
Bethany Smith, (59.89), and Aubreah Manns, (1:00.66), finished in first and second place in the 400 meter dash.
Adriana Jutte placed second in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.47.
The 4x400 meter relay team finished in first place with a time of 4:07.57. The runners included Smith, Jutte, Manns, and Haylee Robinett.
Men
Austin Combs, who has won the previous two national championships in the men's weight throw, took first place in the event on Saturday with a 22.26 (73-0.00), a personal-best and the best throw in the country this season, although it does not register with the NCAA as Combs was competing unattached to save his final semester of eligibility. Meeting the NCAA provisional mark in the event was junior transfer Sterling Mungro who took fifth in the event with a throw of 19.86m (65-2.00).
Combs also took part in the shot put and finished second with a throw of 17.99m. Mungro took fifth in that event, as well, with a provisional throw of 17.02m.
Cameron Stine and Keandre Marlow tied for first place in the high jump, both reaching the heights of 1.98m. Emanuel Durden wasn't far behind them as he finished in third place with a jump of 1.93m.
Joseph Tanner won the shot put throw, as he launched a high of 14.72m. Austin Burkhart finished in third place, throwing a high of 13.86m.
Justin Dreyling, competing unattached, won the long jump as he soared 7.08m. Dreyling also finished first in the triple jump, reaching out 13.81m. Chris Cooper finished in second place in the triple jump, launching out 13.50m.
Ryan Stevens and Nathan Bedel tied for first place in the pole vault event, both reaching the heights of 4.62m.
Nick Rice, (50.56), and Lane Kolb, (51.30), got first and second place in the 400 meter dash.
Josh Verhoff got first place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.25. Ethan Pensante finished in second place, clocking in at 22.66.
Michael Nichols won the 60 meter dash, as he clocked in at 6.97, almost two-tenths faster than the second place finisher. Nichols also placed third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.75.
Josh Steinbrunner finished in second place in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.34.
The 4x400 meter relay team A finished in first place with a time of 3:24.56. The runners included Kolb, Pensante, Rice, and Xavier Marable.
The Oilers next meet will take place after the new year on Saturday, January 11. This event, The Findlay Open, will take place at the University of Findlay.
