Oilers Finish Jet's Pizza Invite in Saginaw
The University of Findlay men and women's indoor track and field team competed in the Jet's Pizza Invitational at Saginaw Valley State University on Jan. 24-25.
Women
Gabrielle Lawrence finished first in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:57.08 while Hannah Hahler won the shot put with a provisional toss of 13.93 meters and also took third in the weight throw with a provisional heave of 17.25 meters.
Semoy Hemmings was the runner-up in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.47 while Bethany Smith took fourth in the same event at 59.22.
In the pole vault, Meadow Cromer and Morgan England tied for third place, both reaching the heights of 3.72 meters, while Lindsey Kluesener took seventh at 3.62 meters. All three marks were provisional qualifying.
Rylee Sybert finished fourth in the 200-meter dash at 26.14 and Simone Green took fourth in the long jump at 5.38 meters.
Men
The Oilers absolutely dominated the weight throwing event, as they had the top three finishers. Javian Martin took first place in the event with a provisional throw of 18.47 meters while Joseph Tanner took second at 16.77 meters. Max Prenger finished third in the event as well with a toss of 16.53 meters. They dominated in the shot put as well with Martin claiming first at 16.08 meters and Austin Burkhart taking second at 14.90 meters. Prenger also had a good showing, finishing fourth with a throw of 14.65 meters while Tanner took sixth at 14.26 meters.
Keandre Marlow won the heptathlon with 4,654 points while Josh Verhoff captured gold in the 200-meter dash after crossing the finish line in 21.99. Verhoff also teamed with Lane Kolb, Gavin Stepansky, and Nick Rice to take third place in the 4x400-meter relay at 3:23.05.
Xavier Marable took runner-up honors in the 60-meter dash at 7.02 while Chris Cooper finished second in the high jump at 1.96 meters and second in the triple jump at 12.83 meters. Cameron Stine finished right behind Cooper in the event as he took third with a leap of 1.91 meters while Ryan Stevens took third place in the pole vault at 4.56 meters.
The Oilers next contest will take place at Penn State, as they will compete in the National Open. The event will take place over the course of two days: Friday, January 31 and Saturday, February 1.
