Multiple Oilers Reach Provisional Marks at Flag City Open

Results

Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay men's and women's track and field team hosted the Flag City Open on Saturday, February 22. The meet consisted of four teams: Findlay, Taylor University, Rio Grande University, and the Bowling Green Track Club. The women's team took first place with 251.5 points, and the men's team also took first place with 218 points. 

Before getting to today's results, last night freshman Josh Verhoff competed in the 200 meter dash in a meet at Akron and placed first overall with a time of 21.57 seconds. With that time, Verhoff now ranks 21st in the country in the event. 

Women

The Oilers dominated the pole vault event, as three different vaulters earned a provisional mark in the event. Highlighted by those was freshman Lindsey Kluesener, who reached the heights of 4.01m (13 feet -1.75 inches), which is a new school record, the second highest mark in G-MAC history, ties her for the ninth highest mark in the nation, earns her first place in the event, and reaches the provisional mark in the event. Sophomore Meadow Cromer reached the provisional mark as well at 3.81m (12-6.00), which gave her a tie for third place. And adding to the provisional mark in the event was freshman Morgan England, who reached up to the heights of 3.66m (12-0.00). 

In the shot put, senior Hannah Hahler had an outstanding performance as she had a long throw of 14.90m (48-10.75), which is far enough for the provisional mark in the event, puts her at the seventh best spot in the country in the event, and places her first overall on the day. Hahler also had a first place finish in the weight throw, as she launched a long throw of 16.09m (52-9.50). 

Freshman Simone Green dominated in all events on the day, but her best event was the long jump as she reached the provisional mark in the event at 5.75m (18-10.50). Freshman Carlee Siefker earned herself a second place finish, as she extended out to 5.56m (18-3.00). 

Junior Brooke Mangas qualified for the provisional mark in the high jump, as she reached the heights of 1.67m (5-0.75), while placing first in the event. Freshman Alexa Fries finished second overall with a high jump of 1.62m (5-3.75). 

In the triple jump, Green took another first place finish at 10.99m (36-0.75). Siefker earned second place at 10.89m (35-8.75). 

Green (25.83), freshman Rylee Sybert (25.85), and sophomore Mikaely Pean (27.00) took the top three spots in the 200 meter dash. 

Sophomore Haylee Robinett (2:20.95) and senior Aubreah Manns (2:21.02) took the top two spots in the 800 meter run. 

Sophomore Gabrielle Lawrence finished in first place in the one mile run as she paced through the finish line with a time of 5:15.21. Fellow Oiler Matilda Jeruto, a junior, snagged a third place finish with a time of 5:32.48.  

In the 60 meter dash, Sybert placed second with a time of 8.18 seconds. Pean (8.32 seconds) and freshman Audrey Nessler (8.51 seconds) took third place in the event. 

Freshman Kenedi Hayden earned herself a third place finish in the 60 meter hurdles as she bolted through the finish line in 9.63 seconds.

In the 400 meter dash, freshman Bethany Smith took third place with a time of 59.16 seconds. 

Men

Junior Sterling Mungro had himself quite a day, as he won the shot put with a throw of 17.39m (57-0.75), which is far enough to get him to the provisional mark in the event, and also places him at the 13th best spot in the nation. To add to that, in the weight throw event, he reached the provisional mark with a throw of 19.53m (64-1.00), and placed first in the event overall. Senior Javian Martin also reached the provisional mark in the weight throw as his throw reached out to 17.71m (58-1.25), and placed second in the event. 

Sophomore Xavier Marable and Verhoff both earned themselves a provisional mark in the 200 meter dash with their blazing times of 21.99 seconds and 22.11 seconds to take first and second place in the event. Marable's time ranks him at 25th in the nation, as it is converted to 21.61 seconds because of the flat track rule. Sophomore Lane Kolb took third place at 22.97 seconds. 

In the pole vault, sophomore Nathan Bedel earned himself a provisional mark in the event as he got up to 4.75m (15-7.00), which placed him second in the event. Sophomore Ryan Stevens tied for third, reaching the heights of 4.65m (15-3.00). 

Coming in at top notch speed, freshman Michael Nichols snatched first place in the 60 meter dash as he clocked in at 7.10 seconds. 

Freshman Nick Rice took the top spot in the 400 meter dash as he crossed the finish line with an impressive time of 50.67 seconds. 

Sophomore Justin Dreyling took first place in the triple jump, extending out to 13.80m (45-3.50). Rice took second place at 13.45m (44-1.50). 

In the 800 meter run, freshman Ethan Adams had the winning time with a 2:00.26. Senior Gavin Stepansky was right behind Adams as he took second place at 2:01.86. 

The Oilers went one, two, three in the 60 meter hurdles, featuring sophomore Josh Steinbrunner coming in at 8.38 seconds, junior Seth Saylor finishing in 8.75 seconds, and freshman Keandre Marlow at 8.79 seconds. 

Freshman Chris Cooper had the top mark in the high jump, reaching the heights of 1.93m (6-4.00). 

In the long jump, Dreyling took third place at 6.89m (22-7.25). 

Junior Jack Adams took fourth place in the one mile run, crossing the finish line with a time of 4:33.98. 

The Oilers will compete in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) championships this upcoming weekend on Friday, February 28 and Saturday, February 29. The event will take place in Tiffin, Ohio.
