Oilers Head to Cedarville on Monday

The University of Findlay women's basketball team will face Cedarville University on Monday, December 19 at 6 pm in Cedarville, Ohio.

The Series

The Oilers hold a 22-7 advantage in the all-time series against Cedarville dating back to the 1982-83 campaign when Findlay came out on top by a score of 83-78.

Last season, the Yellow Jackets claimed a 70-52 win over the Oilers in Croy Gymnasium in the second game of the season.

As a team, the Oilers hit only 26.5 percent (13-of-49) of their field goal attempts and turned the ball over 26 times in the loss.

Clare Aubry led the team with 15 points Laura Bardall and Carlay Stahl chipped in 13 points apiece.

The University of Findlay

The University of Findlay women's basketball team cruised to a 78-56 win over Ohio Dominican University on Saturday, December 17 in Croy Gymnasium.  The victory gives the Oilers a 6-3 record on the season with a 3-2 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers shot 47.4 percent (27-of-57) from the field and drilled 9-of-21 (42.9%) of their three point attempts in the game.  They also forced the Panthers into 29 turnovers, which led to 24 points for Findlay.

The Oilers stellar defensive effort also netted them a season-high 18 steals as they held Ohio Dominican to a mere 38.3 percent (18-of-47) shooting clip.

Junior forward Kayla Brown led the team with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting.  She also tallied five rebounds and drilled 4-of-6 shots from behind the three point line.

Senior guard Clare Aubry chipped in 15 points while sophomore guard Saira House stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, seven steals and six assists.

Sophomore guard Kaleigh Kenny also tallied nine points while freshman forward Lacey Kessler and red-shirt freshman forward Carlay Stahl contributed seven and six points, respectively, off the bench.

The Yellow Jackets are currently 6-2 on the season and are being led by Kayla Jenerette, who is averaging 18.3 points per game.

Defense Wins Championships

The Oilers rank fourth in the GLIAC in points allowed, giving up only 58.0 to their opponents.

Defending the Basket

The Oilers rank third in the conference in blocked shots per game at 4.4 per contest.

Individually, senior forward Kaitlyn Nelson ranks second in the GLIAC with 2.4 blocked shots per game.

Automatic from the Line

Senior guard Clare Aubry is also amongst the league leaders with a 88.5 percent shooting clip from the charity stripe, the fifth best mark in the GLIAC.

Junior forward Kayla Brown checks in 13th as she is hitting 81.0 percent of her attempts from the free throw line.

Shooting a High Percentage

Junior forward Kayla Brown ranks eighth in the GLIAC in field goal shooting percentage, hitting 50.0 percent of her tries.

As a team, the Oilers rank sixth in the GLIAC with a 42.2 percent shooting clip.

Contesting Shots

The Oilers have made life difficult for opposing teams, holding them to a mere 37.9 percent shooting clip, which ranks eighth in the league.

Dropping Dimes

The Oilers are dishing out 14.6 assists per game on the year, the sixth best total in the league.

Individually, sophomore guard Saira House ranks fifth with 4.4 assists per contest.

Grand Theft

The Oilers are averaging 13.1 steals per game on the year, the second best total in the conference.

Individually, sophomore guard Saira House leads the conference with a 2.8 steals per game average while teammate Kayla Brown, a junior forward, checks in fourth with 2.4 steals per outing.

Putting Points on the Board

Junior forward Kayla Brown is leading the team and ranks 13th in the GLIAC with a 13.2 points per game average.

Teammate Clare Aubry also shows up amongst the league leaders and is ranked 15th with a 12.8 points per game average.

As a team, the Oilers rank sixth in the league with 67.3 points per game.

Swatting Shots

Senior forward Kaitlyn Nelson has been swatting shots at a record pace during her career and will have the opportunity to break the school record for most blocks this season.

Nelson has blocked 146 shots during her tenure with the program and is chasing Kelly Carder, who swatted 158 shots from 1996-99.

GLIAC Preseason Poll

The Oilers were picked to finish second in the South Division of the GLIAC this season.  They received 152 votes and ten first place votes, to fall just short of Ashland University (153) in the poll.

Preseason All-GLIAC

Senior guards Laura Bardall and Clare Aubry were both picked as preseason first team all-conference in voting conducted by the coaches within the league.

Bardall was a first team all-conference pick last season after averaging 14.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. 

Aubry meanwhile was a second team all-league pick as a junior and averaged 15.0 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.

1,000 Point Club

Senior guard Laura Bardall ranks eighth all-time at Findlay with 1,262 career points.

Bardall was injured in the Oilers exhibition game against Bowling Green State University and will not have a chance to build on her total this year.
