The University of Findlay women's basketball team lost 58-55 to Michigan Technological University on Thursday, Feb. 2 in Houghton, Michigan to give them a 12-8 record on the season with a 6-7 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers trailed by a score of 41-34 with 11:24 left in the game as the Huskies were threatening to break the contest wide open.  Findlay responded however with a 12-1 run to claim a 46-42 lead with 5:10 remaining.

After battling back and forth, senior forward Kaitlyn Nelson canned a jumper to give Findlay a 51-49 advantage with 2:52 left.  The Huskies then went on a 6-0 run to make the score 55-51 with 53 seconds to go.

After a pair of free throws by freshman forward Lacey Kessler with 43 seconds to play, Michigan Tech's Lindsey Lindstrom split two shots from the charity stripe.  The Oilers were unable to get a defensive rebound on the second miss and the Huskies went to the line again where they made two to push their lead to five at 58-53 with 11 ticks remaining.

A lay-up by junior forward Kayla Brown at the buzzer provided the final margin.

Nelson led the way with 14 points in only 16 minutes of action while Kessler came off the bench to provide ten points.

The Oilers shot 39.6 percent (19-of-48) from the field and held the Huskies to a mere 26.8 percent (15-of-56) from the field.  The Huskies did however out-rebound the Oilers by a 47-30 margin as they secured 24 offensive boards in the contest.

Michigan Tech received 20 points and 16 rebounds from Lindstrom while Lynn Giesler had 15 points and six boards.

The Oilers will face Northern Michigan University on Saturday at 11 am in Marquette, Michigan to complete the road trip to the Upper Peninsula.
