Oilers Claim 78-67 Win Over Lakers

The University of Findlay women's basketball team claimed a 78-67 win over Grand Valley State University on Thursday, Feb. 16 in Croy Gymnasium.  The win gives the Oilers a 14-10 record on the season with an 8-9 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers built a 21-3 lead during the first nine minutes of the game and then withstood several rallies by the Lakers to claim their second straight victory.

Findlay shot 41.9 percent (26-of-62) from the field and drained 11-of-20 (55%) three point shots.  They also tallied 20 assists and came up with 16 steals in the game.

The Lakers hit 39.1 percent (25-of-64) of their shots and held a 48-38 advantage on the boards.

Senior guard Clare Aubry led the Oilers with 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting. 

Junior forward Kayla Brown had 16 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists while red-shirt freshman forward Carlay Stahl, red-shirt sophomore guard Ashley Andrews and junior guard Kendra Elam had 11 points apiece.

Both Andrews and Elam hit 3-of-4 shots from behind the three point line while Stahl grabbed six rebounds and made two blocks off the bench for Findlay.

Briauna Taylor led the Lakers with 21 points and 12 rebounds while Kara Crawford registered 11 points and 15 boards.

The Oilers will host Ferris State University on Saturday for senior day.  The contest is scheduled to begin at 1 pm in Croy Gymnasium.
