Women's Basketball Holds Off Northwood, Win 84-76

The University of Findlay women's basketball team outlasted Northwood University to win 84-76 on Saturday, Dec. 7 in Midland, Mich.

The Oilers, who improved to 4-0 on the season with a 2-0 record in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play, shot 51.9 percent (27-of-52) from the floor and forced 19 turnovers in the game.

Findlay also shot well from behind the three point line, connecting on 43.8 percent (7-of-16) of their attempts from long range.  They also held a 36-22 advantage in points in the paint and their reserves out-scored Northwood's bench players by a 43-21 margin.

Junior forward Lacey Kessler led the way with 18 points off the bench in only 14 minutes of playing time.  The Mt. Blanchard, Ohio native hit every shot she took in the game as she was 4-of-4 from the floor, 2-of-2 from three point range and 8-of-8 from the charity stripe.

Sophomore forward Margaret Wuebker also reached double figures with 14 points to go along with five rebounds and two steals while junior guard Nikki Gunning recorded nine points and three boards.

Senior forward Kaleigh Kenny contributed eight points and three rebounds while junior guard Ciara Geiger had eight points of her own.

Sophomore forward Kelsey Lewis played well for the Oilers off the bench, recording six points, a career-high five assists and four rebounds.

The Timberwolves were led by Sarah Susan, who poured in a game-high 25 points.

The Oilers will now prepare to host Michigan Technological University on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 6 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium.
