Oilers Fall Short Against Warriors

The University of Findlay women's basketball team dropped an 86-80 decision to Wayne State University on Saturday, Jan. 11 in Croy Gymnasium.  The loss gives the Oilers a 6-6 record on the year with a 3-5 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Warriors took a 44-35 at the break, but the Oilers fought back and found themselves down only two points at 82-80 with 29 seconds to play in the game.  The Oilers would get no closer though as they missed four three pointers down the stretch and saw the Warriors converted all four of their free throw attempts.

The Oilers shot 44.8 percent (30-of-67) from the field and forced the Warriors into 23 turnovers.  Findlay also recorded 11 steals and had 18 assists in the loss.

The Warriors meanwhile connected on 66.0 percent (31-of-47) of their shot attempts and held a 33-27 advantage on the boards in the game.

Sophomore forward Margaret Wuebker led the Oilers with 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting.  She also added five rebounds and an assists in 24 minutes of action.

Senior forward Kaleigh Kenny and junior guard Ciara Geiger each had 11 points while senior guard Ashley Andrews had eight points and five assists.

Senior guard Karli Beasley and junior forward Lacey Kessler each contributed seven points while junior guard Kristin Klausing recorded a career-high seven assists.

Imari Redfeld led Wayne State with 22 points and eight rebounds while Shareta Brown had 21 points and eight boards.

The Oilers will travel to Columbus, Ohio to take on Ohio Dominican University on Jan. 16 at 5:30 p.m. in their next game.
