Oilers Take Down #22 Vulcans

Box Score

The UF women's basketball team came away with a 74-66 road win over 22nd-ranked California (Pa.) on Nov. 25 in their first game of the 2014-15 season.

The Oilers jumped out to a 40-31 lead at the half thanks in large part to their hot shooting. Findlay connected on 65.2 percent (15-of-23) of their first half field goal attempts and held the Vulcans to a 35.3 percent (12-of-34) shooting clip.

Findlay's shooting tapered off in the second half, but they got a big lift from junior forward Margaret Wuebker, who was saddled with foul trouble for most of the game.

Leading 62-60 with under four minutes to play, Wuebker scored seven straight points for the Oilers to help keep the Vulcans at bay.  She ended the game by scoring eight of the Oilers final 12 points.

The Oilers shot 58.1 percent (25-of-43) from the floor in the win and held a 29-15 edge in points off the bench.

Senior forward Lacey Kessler led the team with 13 points off the bench on 4-of-8 shooting while freshman guard Haley Horstman had 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor.

Wuebker had 12 points in only ten minutes of action while senior guard Kristin Klausing had 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting.

Senior guard Nikki Gunning and junior forward Kelsey Lewis each had seven points while senior guard Ciara Geiger pumped in six points during the win.

Emma Mahady and Miki Glenn led the Vulcans with 17 points apiece.

The Oilers will have their first home game of the season on Saturday, Nov. 29 when they host Mercyhurst University at 1 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium.
