Oilers Open South Play Against Panthers, Dragons

The Oilers will travel to Columbus, Ohio on Jan. 15 to battle Ohio Dominican at 5:30 p.m. before returning home to face Tiffin on Jan. 17 at 1 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium.

2015 UF Athletic Hall of Fame

The Oilers will recognize their 2015 Hall of Fame class on Jan. 17 at the basketball games in Croy. Doug Coate ('84, baseball, coaching, football), Tim Hamen ('99, basketball), Kati (Stedcke) Hunt ('01, basketball), Damien Spates ('99, track and field), Nate Weihrauch ('97, football), Michelle (Biclawski) Williams ('96, soccer) and Terry Wymer ('82, Lifetime Achievement Award) will all be inducted on Saturday.

Make-A-Wish

The Oilers will have their annual Make-A-Wish benefit on Jan. 17. T-shirts will be sold at the game to help raise funds for the organization.

Series Information

The Oilers hold a 14-4 advantage in the all-time series against Ohio Dominican dating back to the 1991-92 campaign when the Panthers claimed a 77-69 victory over Findlay in the NAIA District 22 playoffs.

The Panthers swept the season series against the Oilers last year, winning 79-72 in Columbus and 69-51 in Findlay.

In the loss on the road, Ciara Geiger posted 27 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists to lead Findlay. Margaret Wuebker and Karli Bonar also reached double figures in the loss, contributing 14 and 11 points, respectively.

In the loss at home, Wuebker led the Oilers with 19 points and seven rebounds.  She hit 8-of-12 shot attempts and also blocked two shots in the contest.

Geiger also reached double figures with 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting.  Geiger made three of the Oilers four three pointers and also added three rebounds and two blocks.

The Oilers hold a commanding 40-8 advantage in the all-time series against the Dragons dating back to the 1984-85 campaign when Findlay was victorious by a score of 77-36.

The Oilers won both games against the Dragons last year, winning 69-66 in Tiffin and 81-59 in Findlay.

In the win on the road, Margaret Wuebker paced the Oilers offensive attack with 14 points and nine rebounds. Karli Bonar had a great game as well with 11 points and eight assists while Ciara Geiger recorded 11 points, seven rebounds and four steals.

In the win at home, Kelsey Lewis led the charge and tied a school record by going 8-of-8 from the field in the win.  Her perfect outing led to her scoring a career-high 20 points.

Geiger also had a standout game for the Oilers as she recorded 16 points, nine rebounds and four steals while Karli Beasley contributed 12 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Bonar added eight points, six rebounds and three assists while Wuebker had eight points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block in the win.

Findlay

The University of Findlay women's basketball team charged past Hillsdale College on Jan. 10, winning 93-79 on the road. The win gave the Oilers a 7-5 record on the season with a 3-5 mark in conference play.

The Oilers shot 54.7 percent (35-of-64) from the floor in the victory and canned 12-of-22 (54.5%) shot attempts from behind the three point line. Hillsdale meanwhile connected on 41.6 percent (32-of-77) of their shot attempts and held a 45-34 advantage on the boards.

Karli Bonar led the way with a team-high 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting. She hit 5-of-7 three point attempts and also added two rebounds and two assists.

Lacey Kessler came off the bench to provide 17 points and five rebounds in only 14 minutes of action while Haley Horstman recorded a career-high 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting.

Ciara Geiger added 13 points, six rebounds and three assists while Nikki Gunning had 11 points and four boards in the victory.

The Chargers were led by Morgan Blair's 20 points, six rebounds and five assists. Megan Fogt added 18 points and nine boards as well.

Ohio Dominican

The Panthers are 4-10 on the season with a 1-7 mark in GLIAC play. They are coming off of an 81-75 loss against Northwood last Saturday.

Kacee Hockenberry leads the team and is averaging 17.1 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.7 steals per game. She is also canning 1.9 three pointers per contest.

Melissa Scherpenberg is also having a great season and is averaging a double-double for the Panthers with 11.2 points and 11.3 rebounds per game.

Tiffin

The Dragons are 4-10 on the year with a 3-5 record in conference play. Bre Nauman leads three Tiffin players in double figures with 11.4 points per game.

Anya Misko is averaging 10.6 points and 6.1 rebounds while Kaylee Patton is chipping in 10.4 points per outing.

Putting Points on the Board

The Oilers are averaging 73.7 points per game this season, the fifth best mark in the GLIAC. They have done so with a balanced offensive attack that includes eighth players averaging more than 5.5 points per game.

Junior forward Margaret Wuebker leads the team with an average of 11.4 points per game.

The Oilers have also had nine different players reach double figures in a game this season.

Hot Shooting

The Oilers are shooting 46.4 percent from the floor as a team, which is the second best mark in the GLIAC.  Sophomore guard Karli Bonar is ranked sixth in the GLIAC with a 53.2 percent shooting clip while junior forward Margaret Wuebker is seventh at 52.4 percent. 

Grand Theft

The Oilers are averaging 10.2 steals per game, which is the fourth best total in the GLIAC.  Freshman guard Haley Horstman leads six Oilers who are averaging more than 1.0 steals per game with 1.6 thefts per contest.

Bombs Away

The Oilers are shooting 38.4 percent from three point range this season, the best percentage in the GLIAC. Sophomore guard Karli Bonar leads the squad with a 48.4 percent shooting clip from long range, which is the top mark in the league. 

She is also making 2.5 three pointers per game, the fourth best total in the GLIAC.

Automatic from the Line

Senior guard Nikki Gunning is hitting 94.1 percent of her free throw attempts this season. Her shooting percentage from the charity stripe is the best mark in the GLIAC.

In addition, senior forward Lacey Kessler ranks 12th at 82.4 percent.
