Walsh, Malone, #10 Wayne St. Up Next for Oilers

The Oilers will have three games in five days against Walsh, Malone and Wayne State. The Oilers and Cavaliers will play on Jan. 29 at 5:30 p.m. in Canton, Ohio before Findlay returns home to host the Pioneers on Jan. 31 at 1 p.m. The Oilers will then travel to Detroit, Mich. on Feb. 2 to take on the 10th-ranked Warriors at 5:30 p.m.

Series Information

The Oilers hold a 12-3 advantage in the all-time series against the Cavaliers dating back to the 1983-84 season when Findlay came away with a 69-66 win in the NAIA District 22 playoffs.

The two programs split their season series last year as each team won on their home floor. Findlay won 56-51 in Croy and lost 86-83 in Canton.

In their win, Ciara Geiger paced the Oilers with 16 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Margaret Wuebker also reached double figures with 12 points to go along with seven rebounds while Karli Bonar had nine points, six steals and five rebounds.

In their loss, Nikki Gunning led Findlay with 17 points while Wuebker had 15 points and nine rebounds.

Geiger added 13 points and eight boards while Bonar contributed 11 points, hitting three triples along the way.

The Oilers shot 42.4 percent (28-of-66) from the floor and canned ten three pointers.  They also forced 18 turnovers, but were out-rebounded by a 56-31 margin.

The Oilers hold a commanding 19-2 record against the Pioneers in their all-time series dating back to the 1991-92 campaign when Findlay won by a score of 77-43.

Malone earned two victories against the Oilers last season, winning 71-65 at home and 74-67 in Findlay.

In the road loss to Malone, the Oilers could only muster a 31.7 percent (19-of-60) shooting clip in the game as Ciara Geiger led the way with 17 points, four rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block.

Margaret Wuebker also reached double figures with 12 points while Karli Bonar had nine points.

In their home loss, Nikki Gunning led the Oilers with 14 points on 5-of-12 shooting.

Geiger scored 12 points while Karli Beasley had ten points and four rebounds in the game.

Wuebker contributed nine points and seven rebounds while Kelsey Lewis chipped in six points and three boards.

The Oilers hold a 19-17 advantage in the all-time series against Wayne State dating back to the 1990-91 campaign when they came out on the winning end by a score of 57-48.

The Warriors topped the Oilers by a score of 86-80 last season in Croy Gymnasium. The Warriors took a 44-35 at the break, but the Oilers fought back and found themselves down only two points at 82-80 with 29 seconds to play in the game.  The Oilers would get no closer though as they missed four three pointers down the stretch and saw the Warriors converted all four of their free throw attempts.

The Oilers shot 44.8 percent (30-of-67) from the field and forced the Warriors into 23 turnovers.  Findlay also recorded 11 steals and had 18 assists in the loss.  The Warriors meanwhile connected on 66.0 percent (31-of-47) of their shot attempts and held a 33-27 advantage on the boards in the game.

Margaret Wuebker led the Oilers with 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting.  She also added five rebounds and an assists in 24 minutes of action.

Kaleigh Kenny and Ciara Geiger each had 11 points while Ashley Andrews had eight points and five assists.

Karli Beasley and Lacey Kessler each contributed seven points while Kristin Klausing recorded seven assists.

Findlay

The Oilers overcame a 16-point first half deficit to claim a 66-58 win over Lake Erie College on Jan. 24 in Painesville, Ohio. The victory gave the Oilers a 10-6 record on the season with a 6-6 mark in GLIAC play.

The Oilers got off to a slow start as the Storm jumped out to a 21-5 lead in the first ten minutes of the half. Findlay then went on a 19-7 run to close the half as they entered the break trailing by a score of 28-24. Lake Erie began the second half with a small 4-0 run to make the score 32-24, but the Oilers took control from there as they eventually built a 14-point lead before holding off the Storm down the stretch.

The Oilers shot 48.8 percent (21-of-43) from the floor and forced 21 turnovers in the game. They also held the Storm to a 39.7 percent (23-of-58) shooting clip in the win.

Karli Bonar led the way with 17 points to go along with three rebounds and two steals. She hit 5-of-12 shot attempts and connected on 5-of-10 three point tries.

Ciara Geiger also reached double figures with 14 points and stuffed the stat sheet with five rebounds, four steals, three assists and a block in the game.

Kristin Klausing chipped in nine points, four rebounds and four assists while Margaret Wuebker, Shannon Zajec and Kelsey Lewis had five points apiece.

The Cavaliers are 13-5 on the season with a 7-5 record in conference play. They have been led by Kelsey Funderburgh, who is averaging 16.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.8 steals per game.

Brooklyn Wooten is also averaging in double figures at 10.4 points per game while Jalynn Graham and Brittni Clopton are scoring 9.4 and 9.3 points per contest, respectively.

The Pioneers are 7-9 on the season with a 5-7 record in GLIAC play. They have been led by Rachel Goddard, who is averaging 11.6 points per game.

Selana Reale is also having a good season with averages of 9.9 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while Lindsy Snyder sports averages of 6.7 points and 7.6 boards per contest.

Logan Pastor is chipping in 6.6 points and 6.8 rebounds per game as well.

#10 Wayne State

The Warriors are 14-2 on the season with a 10-2 record in conference play. They are currently ranked 10th in the nation.

Shareta Brown leads the team and sports averages of 22.7 points, 15.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.1 steals per game.

Des Lavita-Stephens is also averaging in double figures at 10.5 points per contest.

Putting Points on the Board

The Oilers are averaging 74.1 points per game this season, the second best mark in the GLIAC. They have done so with a balanced offensive attack that includes eight players averaging more than 6.0 points per game.

Sophomore guard Karli Bonar leads the team in scoring at 11.2 points per game while senior guard Nikki Gunning (10.4), senior guard Ciara Geiger (10.3) and junior forward Margaret Wuebker (10.1) are all averaging in double figures as well.

The Oilers have also had nine different players reach double figures in a game this season.

Hot Shooting

The Oilers are shooting 47.2 percent from the floor as a team, which is the best mark in the GLIAC.  Sophomore guard Karli Bonar is ranked fourth in the GLIAC with a 53.2 percent shooting clip.

Bombs Away

The Oilers are shooting 38.6 percent from three point range this season, the best percentage in the GLIAC. Sophomore guard Karli Bonar leads the squad with a 49.4 percent shooting clip from long range, which is the top mark in the league. 

She is also making 2.8 three pointers per game, the third best total in the GLIAC.

Bonar has a chance to establish a new school record for most made three pointers in a season this year as she has canned 44 so far. The school record of 68 was set by Maggie Gompers during the 2008-09 campaign. 

Grand Theft

The Oilers are averaging 10.9 steals per game, which is the third best total in the GLIAC.  Senior guards Ciara Geiger and Kristin Klausing lead seven Oilers who are averaging more than 1.0 steals per game with 1.6 thefts per contest.

Scoring in Bunches

Senior guard Ciara Geiger has had a knack for putting the ball in the hole during her collegiate career as she has racked up 1,423 points. Geiger scored 995 points for Urbana University during her first two collegiate seasons before transferring to Findlay last season. In her first season with the Oilers last year, Geiger scored 264 points.
