Oilers Beat Pioneers at Buzzer

Canton, OH – The University of Findlay women's basketball team traveled to Canton, Ohio to take on future G-MAC opponent, Malone University, and came away with a victory at the buzzer. The game, which went to overtime, ended with a 75-74 win for Findlay and gives the Oilers a 3-2 record on the year.

The contest featured eight ties and five lead changes, but the one lead change that ultimately mattered happened as the buzzer sounded in the overtime period. Malone had the 74-73 lead with 24 seconds to play in the game. Findlay cleared out and gave junior Haley Horstman a chance to win the game. She took her shot with three seconds on the clock and missed. Sophomore Christa Puthoff was there to grab the offensive rebound and put the ball back up and in when the clock hit zero, giving Findlay a one point victory.

The Oilers trailed by five points after the first quarter, 18-13, but dominated in the second as they outscored the Pioneers 20-6. The score was ultimately tied at 62-62 heading to the overtime period before Findlay sealed the deal.

Horstaman and Puthoff led the way for Findlay as they each scored 19 points. For Horstman, those 19 points were a season-high as she scored the first seven points of the overtime period to help the Oilers secure the win. Horstman also collected five rebounds and had two steals. Puthoff posted her second straight double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. It was the second game in a row where she collected seven offensive boards.

Sophomore Anna Hintz came off the bench and nearly collected a double-double of her own as she scored 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds. She also led the team with a pair of blocks.

Junior Lynsey Englebrecht ended the game with nine points on 2-of-4 from deep .

The Oilers will be back home on Sunday, Nov. 27 when they take on Gannon University at 1:00 pm.
