Englebrecht's Second Half Lifts Oilers

Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay women's basketball team defeated the Gannon University Knights on Sunday, November 27 in Croy Gymnasium. The 56-47 win gives the Oilers a 4-2 record on the year while Gannon fell to 1-6.

Findlay took a 14-10 lead after the first quarter and pushed that lead to 16-10 with a quick basket to start the second, but 2-of-16 shooting in the quarter combined with an 8-0 run by Gannon to close out the quarter sent the Oilers into the break facing a 24-22 deficit.

An 11-2 run by Findlay opened the third quarter and the Oilers would go on to outscore the Knights 17-6 in that period. Both teams scored 17 points in the fourth as Findlay went on to seal the victory.

In a game that saw three ties and three lead changes, each team had its share of struggles from the floor. The Oilers hit just 20-of-61 shots (32.8%) including 6-of-20 (30%) from behind the arc. Gannon also struggled as they shot 17-of-47 (36.2%) from the field and hit just one three-pointer in 12 attempts. Findlay won the rebounding battle 45-35 and forced 20 turnovers.

Junior Lynsey Englebrecht led the Oilers with 13 points on the strength of 3-of-6 from deep. All of her points came in the second half including nine in the fourth quarter alone. She also had a pair of steals.

Sophomore Christa Puthoff and junior Haley Horstman scored nine points each. Horstman tied junior Elissa Ellerbrock with a team-high eight rebounds.

Findlay hits the road for their first taste of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) basketball as they take on Grand Valley State on Thursday, December 1 at 6:00pm.
