Oilers Set Steals Record in 47-Point Drubbing of Defiance

Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team never trailed on Saturday, Nov. 16 as they welcomed in NCAA Division III opponent Defiance College to town. The Oilers jumped out to a 15-0 lead through four minutes and never looked back, winning by a score of 87-40, winning their third game of the year, improving to 3-1.

The Oilers did not allow more than 11 points in any of the four quarters as they would cruise to a 47-point win, their largest margin of victory in a game since a 60-point win against Michigan-Dearborn in December of 2016.

Findlay made 32-of-75 (.427) shots from the field while holding Defiance to just 16-of-51 (.314). The Yellow Jackets won the battle on the glass 41-to-38 but committed 41 turnovers, most of which were because of steals by the Oilers. In total, Findlay recorded 29 steals in the game which set a new school record, breaking the old record of 28 steals which was set against Ohio Dominican in 2013.

Sophomore Sydney Kin led the way for the Orange and Black as she poured in a career-high 17 points on 6-of-9 from the floor. She also grabbed five rebounds while fellow sophomore Bridget Landin picked up her second double-double of the season, scouring 11 points and snagging ten rebounds. She nearly had a triple-double as she led the team with seven steals.

Sophomore Amber Schweiger and junior Allison Utterback each contributed nine points, three steals, and an assist in the win. Chipping in eight points and three steals was sophomore guard Lilly Simon while freshman Serena Sammarone scored six points, had three steals, and four rebounds.

The Oilers will play their final home game of 2019 on Tuesday, Nov. 19 as they host Wayne State in a game that will tip off at 7:00 pm.
