Oilers Hold Off Trojans in Nashville

Nashville, Tenn. – The University of Findlay women's basketball held off a furious comeback by the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans on Saturday, Feb. 8 to secure the 65-61 victory in the Trojan Fieldhouse in Nashville, Tennessee. With the win, the Oilers improve to 12-11 on the season and 8-5 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play while the Trojans fall to 7-16 and 4-10 in conference play.

Findlay held a 59-49 lead with four and a half ­minutes left in the game before Trevecca sparked a 12-2 run to tie the game with just 53 seconds on the clock. It was the first time the game had been tied since the opening tip. Sophomore Amber Schweiger closed out the game making four of her five free-throws in the closing seconds to secure the win.

Both teams shot 40 percent in the game with Findlay making 20-of-50 shots while TNU hit 22-of-55. The free throw line played a big role in the Oilers' win as the Orange and Black hit 22-of-31 attempts while the Trojans hit just 11-of-20.

Sophomore Sydney Kin led all scorers with 23 points on 9-of-13 from the floor. She also collected 11 rebounds and three blocks, both game-highs. Sophomore Paige Bellman also reached double-figures in rebounds with ten and led the team with three steals.

Sophomore Amber Schweiger used a career-high at the free-throw line, making 12-of-18, on her way to a 16-point performance. She led the Oilers with four assists and also had a pair of steals. Senior Lauren Ruth was the final double-digit scorer for Findlay, scoring ten points on a 3-of-8 performance from the field.

Sophomre Bridget Landin scored seven points and grabbed four rebounds.

Findlay is back home on Feb. 13 for a home game against Ohio Dominican. That contest will tip off at 5:30 pm.
