Arrows Top Oilers 80-77

The University of Findlay women's basketball team fell 80-77 against Ursuline College on Dec. 17 in Niekamp Arena. The loss gives the Oilers a 2-2 record on the season with a 2-2 mark in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC).

The Oilers trailed by double digits for most of the third quarter before they started to chip away at the Arrows lead. By the time the fourth quarter came along, the Oilers had tied the game at 64-64 with 7:38 to play on a layup from junior forward Sydney Kin. The Oilers then held a 76-70 lead with just over two minutes to play, but the Arrows battled back.

Up 77-73 with 20 seconds remaining in the contest, the Oilers surrendered a three pointer and then turned the ball over which led two more points giving the Arrows a 78-77 advantage with 12 seconds to play. The Oilers were then unable to convert on the other end and were forced to foul giving Ursuline two more points from the line, which proved to be the final margin in the game.

The Oilers shot 42.4 percent (28-of-66) from the floor while Ursuline connected on 41.4 percent (29-of-70) of their shot attempts. Findlay also made 9-of-20 (45%) attempts from behind the three point line while the Arrows connected on 10-of-26 (38.5%) attempts from long range.

Kin led the way with 23 points, nine rebounds, six blocks, and two assists while freshman guard Kendyl Mick came off the bench to provide a career-high 14 points on the strength of a 4-of-7 showing from three point range.

Junior forward Bridget Landin also reached double figures with 14 points to go along with seven rebounds while sophomore guard Elizabeth Flynn had seven.

Sophomore forward Rachel Cooke chipped in six points while junior guard Amber Schweiger had four points and ten assists.

The Arrows were led by Alyssa Evans' 22 points.

Findlay will be back at home on Saturday to host Kentucky Wesleyan College at 1pm.
