Oilers Qualify for East Regional, Seeded 5th

NCAA Release

The University of Findlay women's golf team has qualified for the NCAA Division East Regional, which will take place on May 3-5 at the Cog Hill Golf and Country Club Ravines Course in Lemont, Ill.

The Oilers earned the five-seed in the tournament and are coming off of a second place finish at the 2015 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship. The Oilers took second place at the conference tournament with a three-round score of 931 (312, 302, 317), which established a new 54-hole score school record.

The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with one of those teams from the regional will advance to the championship event. The national championship will be held at the Meadows Golf Club in Allendale, Mich., which is slated to run from May 13-16.

The team is led by senior Michele Schambs and junior Kasey Petty, who both earned first team all-conference accolades this season. Schambs took second at the GLIAC Championship with a school record 219 (72, 72, 75), which was three-over par. Petty meanwhile finished fourth with a 230 (77, 76, 77).

Sophomore Shelby Warner was named second team all-conference for the Oilers this season as well. Warner took 13th with a 237 (83, 72, 82) at the conference tournament.

Last season the Oilers took third at the NCAA Regional. Their third place finish enabled them to qualify for the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championship marking the first time they had done so since joining the DII ranks. They later placed seventh at the national championship event.
