Petty Makes History at Cav Classic

Round 1 Results

Canton, OH – It was a record setting day on Saturday, April 16 on the first day of the Cav Classic. The University of Findlay women's golf team currently sits in second place in the event with a team score of 310.

Senior Kasey Petty is the golfer who made history for the Orange and Black. Petty began her day by shooting an even-par, 36 on the front nine, but caught fire on the back. She began the back with three straight birdies, holes 10, 11, and 12, and later birdied hole 16 to finish with a 32 on the closing nine holes. Her 18-hole score of 68 (-4) is a University of Findlay record, surpassing the previous record of 69 which was done twice; Shelby Warner at this season's Perry Park Spring Fling and Lauren Vogt at the Northwood Invitational in 2013. Petty's previous best was an even-par 72, which she had done three times. The score has Petty in first place with a three shot lead over Grand Valley State's Gabrielle Shipley.

Freshman Mackenzie Torres is the only other Oilers player in the top-10 after she carded a 78 in her first day of competition. She is currently in a tie for ninth place.

Sophomore Kelsey Koesters finished her round tied for 20th with an 81 while junior Shelby Warner and freshman Samantha Hatter each shot 83 to finish tied for 30th.

The second and final round will be played tomorrow, Sunday, April 17.
