Oilers Tied for Lead at Dayton Invitational

Kettering, OH - The University of Findlay women's golf team has found themselves in a tie for first after the first day at the University of Dayton Fall Invitational. The first round was played on Monday, Oct. 17 at the NCR Country Club in Kettering, OH. The Oilers put up a score of 299 and are tied with Oakland University for the lead with Youngstown State in third, two shots off the lead at 301. Of the 14-team field, Findlay is the only Division-II school with the rest of the teams competing at the Division-I level.

Leading the way for the Oilers was sophomore Makenzie Torres who shot a 71 (+1) on the first day, tying a career-best and fifth best in school history. She is currently tied for second place just one shot off the lead.

Senior Shelby Warner is also in the top ten as she carded a 74 (+4) on day one. That score has her in seventh place overall.

Freshman Meredith Wipper and Samantha Kellstrom are both tied for 12th overall after each of the shot a 77 (+7) white sophomore Samantha Hatter is currently in a tie for 28th with a 79 (+9).

Junior Kelsey Koesters, competing as an individual, shot an 83 (+13) on the first day and is tied for 53rd.

The second and final round will be played tomorrow, Tuesday, Oct. 18.
