Oilers Win in Playoff | Schmitmeyer Claims Medalist Honors

The University of Findlay women's golf team came from behind on day two of the Tiffin University Fall Invitational on Oct. 11 at the Mohawk Golf and Country Club to win in a playoff against the host Dragons. The Oilers, who entered the final day of competition down four strokes, ended the day in a tie for first with a 36-hole score of 623 (317, 306). In the playoff against Tiffin, the Oilers replayed the 18th hole and received birdies from Senior Meredith Wipper, senior Kristina Kniesly, junior Jill Schmitmeyer, and freshman Gabby Woods to eliminate the Dragons and claim the tournament crown.

Schmitmeyer led the way and took home her first collegiate tournament title by two strokes over Tiffin's Amanda Johansson. Schmitmeyer posted a 6-over par 78 during the first round of competition before firing an even-par round of 72 during the final 18 holes for her total of 150. Her six birdies during the event was a tournament-high.

Wipper recorded a third place finish after posting a 36-hole score of 154 (76, 78) while junior Danbi Kim tied for fourth with a 155 (78, 77).

Kniesly (85, 79 – 164) finished in 19th place while Woods tied for 28th with a 170 (88, 82) to round out the Oilers "A" team scores.

The Oilers "B" team took fourth out of the field of 14 with a 667 (340, 327) and were led by freshman Sarah Scarpill, who tied for eighth with a 159 (79, 80).

Freshman Jordan Pruitt (85, 78 – 163) tied for 16th, freshman Abby Jones (88, 80 – 168) tied for 22nd, and sophomore Lexis Fickell (88, 89 – 177) tied for 43rd for the "B" squad as well.

The Oilers have now concluded their fall season and will look to keep the momentum moving forward into spring.
