Oilers Finish 3rd in Team Competition | Head to Match Play

The University of Findlay women's golf team finished the team portion of the 2021 NCAA Division II National Championship on May 13 at the TPC of Michigan in third place and will now advance to match play to decide who will return home with the national title.

The Oilers carded a 299 on the final day of competition, their best score out of the three days at the event, and ended the team portion of the tournament with a score of 900 (300, 301, 299) after 54 holes. As a team, the Oilers racked up 38 birdies during the first three rounds, the third-best total among the competitors at the event.

Senior Meredith Wipper led the way and tied for third overall with a 3-over par score of 219. Wipper posted a 76 in the opening round before firing a 4-under par 68 in round two. She then closed the tournament with a 75 on Thursday.

Junior Jill Schmitmeyer also recorded a top-10 finish as she tied for ninth with a 222. Schmitmeyer was consistent throughout the 54 holes as she shot a 73 in round one, a 74 in round two, and a 75 in round three.

Senior Kristina Kniesly tied for 31st with a 234 after posting a team-best 74 in round three. She carded an 82 in round one and a 78 in round two as well.

Junior Danbi Kim tied for 38th with a 235 (79, 81, 75) while freshman Gabby Woods finished 63rd with a 244 (72, 89, 83).

The Oilers, who are ranked 11th in the nation, will now face 7th-ranked St. Mary's in the quarterfinal round of match play tomorrow.
