Awards Keep Rolling for Oilers | Sweep G-MAC Postseason

Findlay, Ohio- The Great Midwest Athletic Conference released their postseason awards, today, May 25. The University of Findlay women's golf team swept the awards as senior Kristina Kniesly was named the Player of the Year, Mary Kelly Mulcahy was tabbed the Freshman of the Year, and Dominic Guarnieri was voted the Coach of the Year.

Kniesly earned all-conference honors and led the Oilers during the 2020-21 with a scoring average of 73.89, the 13th-best mark in NCAA Division II. Her average this season is the best season scoring average in program history as well as in the G-MAC history. She arguably had one of the best spring campaigns in program history, winning three individual titles. The Logansport, Ind. native won both the SVSU Spring Invite and the Findlay Spring Invite before moving on to win the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship. While wearing the orange and black, Kniesly has a combined five tournament wins, tying the program record in the NCAA era. 

Mulcahy, who won two titles this season, ranks 56th in the nation in scoring average at 75.43. She finished in the top spot at the Cav Classic before winning the NCAA East Regional. Mulcahy's average this season is the seventh best in program history. 

Guarnieri was selected as the top coach in the conference for the fourth straight season. He led the Oilers to the 2022 NCAA Division II National Championship last week at the Chattahoochee Golf Club in Gainesville, Ga. Guarnieri, who was also voted the East Region Coach of the Year after winning the regional title, led his squad to an undefeated spring season in which they won all eight events they participated in. In seven of those eight wins, the Oilers had individual win medalist honors as well.

In addition, senior Jill Schmitmeyer, sophomore Gabby Woods, and freshman Erin Mulcahy earned all-conference honors for the Oilers as well.

Schmitmeyer ranked 32nd in the nation in scoring average at 74.68 while Woods averaged 76.13. Schmitmeyer has been named all-conference three times during her career now while this is the second time Woods has achieved the honor.

E. Mulcahy meanwhile earned all-conference honors for the first time in her career and tied for seventh at the conference championship earlier this season. She finished the season with a scoring average of 78.73.
