Oilers Lead G-MAC Championship | Three in Top-Three

Results

Lexington, Ky.- The University of Findlay women's golf team is currently in first place at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship, which wrapped up day one today, Apr. 27.  The event is being held at the 6,014 yard, par 72,  University Club of Kentucky's Big Blue Course- which has hosted the event dating back to 2019. They recorded an opening round of 290 (+2) before ending the day with a 296 (+8).

Leading the Oilers was junior Gabby Woods. Woods recorded rounds of 69 (-3) and 75 (+3) to finish the day at even par. After her opening round of three-under par, Woods added two more birdies early in her second round to move to five-under through 25 holes. The Sabina, Ohio native fell victim to par 3 eighth and par 4 ninth, going six-over on the two holes. Despite the setback, Woods played her final nine holes one-under to finish even par and in solo second. She is two shots behind Tiffin's Lisa Marie Schumacher.

Senior Jill Schmitmeyer and sophomore Mary Kelly Mulcahy are both tied for third at one-over par. Schmitmeyer carded rounds of 74 (+2) and 71 (-1) while M.K. Mulcahy recorded rounds of 72 (E) and 73 (+1).

Sophomore Erin Mulcahy is in a tie for sixth after rounds of 75 (+3) and 78 (+6). Rounding out the lineup for the Oilers is freshman Hayley Dye. Dye recorded rounds of 81 (+9) and 77 (+5). She is in sixteenth at fourteen-over par.

The Oilers look to close out stroke play tomorrow morning and are in a solid position to make the medal match play portion of the event. The new format, which debuted just last year, will feature the top two teams in the stroke play portion of the G-MAC tournament. The teams will be matched up for medal match play, during which players from each of the two teams go head to head against each other. Each match is worth a point with the best of five claiming the tournament title.

Findlay is chasing their fifth consecutive G-MAC title and sixth consecutive conference title. They hold a twenty shot lead over Tiffin heading into the final round tomorrow. The Oilers will tee off in shotgun format at 8:30am.

Hear from the Oilers

Head Coach Dominic Guarnieri- The first round we played really solid. We didn't count any scores worse than bogey and I always tell them that if we do that we are going to shoot a good score. The second round I saw a lot of fight: obviously, Gabby playing those two holes six-over but then shooting 75- Jill playing awesome in the second round- so all in all it was a good first day. We just have to go make tomorrow better.

Gabby Woods- Today I thought went really well. As a team, we played well the first round and fought back the second round. Some things on certain holes didn't go as planned but I felt like we stuck to our game plan. We did what we needed to do to be where we are at. I think tomorrow we can't get complacent.
