Columbus, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's golf team had four athletes participating in the 100th Women's Ohio State Amateur from July 24-27. The event was held at Scioto Country Club in Columbus, Ohio and was ultimately won by standout, Gabby Woods.

"This week was nothing short of great", said Woods. "I learned alot about myself and my game this week and met many great people. I think this event and the experiences I've had this week will help keep me calm and continue to have determination and drive going into my senior season. I couldn't have done what I did this week without my family, my caddy and swing coach Doug Ledford, my teammates, and Coach Guarnieri."

Findlay's top performer proved herself to be among the top amateurs in the state with the victory. Woods, who will be playing in the U.S. Amateur in California in the beginning of August, was the top finisher in the stroke play portion of the event, an 18-hole shootout which took place on Monday, July 24. Woods shot 68 (-4) to earn medalist and claim the second seed in the tournament with the top seed going to last year's champion.

The Oilers' all-American worked her way through the championship bracket that featured the top 32 players in stroke play. She breezed through the first round, winning 5&4 and in the second round, was a 4&3 winner. Her tightest match came in the semifinals where she defeated Kary Hollenbaugh, a sophomore at Ohio State, one up. In the finals, Woods won five of the first six holes, each of those wins coming via a birdie, and would cruise to a 3&2 victory, claiming the title as Ohio's top amateur.

Findlay's Mary Kelly and Erin Mulcahy also earned their way into the championship bracket after qualifying fifth and sixth, respectively, in the stroke play portion. Mary Kelly fired a 70 (-2) while Erin shot 73 (+1) to earn seeds in the top bracket. M. Mulcahy earned her way into the quarterfinals before being defeated one up while E. Mulcahy won her Round of 32 matchup before being defeated in the second round.
