Oilers Win in Final Seconds at St. Thomas
The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team recorded a 13-12 win against St. Thomas Aquinas on March 28 in Sparkill, N.Y. The win gives the Oilers a 2-4 record on the season.
The Oilers fell behind by an 8-2 margin in the first half, but completely dominated the second half. They out-scored St. Thomas Aquinas by an 11-4 margin in the deciding period and broke a 12-12 tie late in the game for the victory.
The Oilers found themselves down 12-8 with just under 13 minutes to play. Sophomore Kyra Bradley then scored twice within the next three minutes to make the score 12-10. Junior Mackenzie Barnwell then scored at the 1:19 mark before freshman Olivia Sherman found the back of the net just seconds later to tie the game.
Tied at 12-12 with just over a minute to play, Findlay freshman Rachel Heath came away with a big save in the net for the Oilers. Barnwell then set up junior Sarah Lankton and St. Thomas Aquinas was forced to foul. Lankton then converted the free position shot for a goal with only eight seconds remaining to give the Oilers their second straight victory.
The Oilers held an 18-11 advantage in ground balls and converted 8-of-13 free position attempts in the win. They were led by Bradley's six goals and got four more from Lankton.
Heath stopped five shots in the net to earn the win for Findlay.
The Oilers will be back in action again tomorrow at Long Island University-Post. LIU-Post is ranked tenth in the nation.
