Oilers Fall in OT to #14 Colorado Mesa

Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team dropped an overtime thriller against the #14 Colorado Mesa University Mavericks on Wednesday, March 20. The Oilers fell 11-12 to bring them to 2-7 on the season.

The first half was a back and forth matchup between the two teams, as goals were being scored one after the other. The score was tied five times in just the first half until the Oilers went into halftime up by one with a score of 6-5.

The Oilers started the second half going on a three goal run to move the score to 9-5. The Mavericks fought back and put two on the board to slow Findlay's momentum. Another goal by the Oilers put the score at 10-7, but the Mavericks came back to score four unanswered goals to tie the game at 11-11 with less than six minutes remaining.

With less than three minutes remaining, the Oilers were able to put another goal on the board to send the game into overtime. One minute into overtime the Mavericks scored the golden goal to end the game at 11-12.

Senior Brie Caruso netted three goals for the Oilers along with two ground balls and one draw control. Freshmen Danielle Dilorenzo and Kendra Lindell each had two goals and one assist.

Senior Jacelyn Litman had one goal and dished out three assists along with two caused turnovers. Junior Ciara Burud had one goal, one assist, four groundballs, and three caused turnovers.

Freshmen Madi DeVries had one goal, one assist, and four groundballs while sophomore Allie Kasprzyk had one goal.

On the defensive end, junior Brittany Stephens and sophomore Hallie Canfield each had five ground balls and one caused turnover.

Senior Claire Ferrell took the loss in net but had 13 saves and four ground balls on the day.

Senior Hannah Peebles broke the school record of 79 career assists with the two she dished out today, putting her at 81.

The Oilers will be back on the turf on Sunday, March 31 to kick-off conference play against Alderson Broaddus. The contest is set to being at 12:00 PM.
