Findlay Falls In Close Contest With Ashland

Ashland, Ohio - The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team took on Ashland University at Ferguson Field on Thursday, April 6 The Oilers were defeated by the Eagles by a score of 11-10.With this loss the Oilers record is now 5-7 in the season and 2-1 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play while the Eagles move to 6-6 and 2-1 in conference play. 

The Oilers started the game off strong with sophomore Olivia Alvarado securing the first draw control of the contest. After the first three minutes of play, Findlay found themselves up by one. At the end of the first quarter, the Oilers led 3-1 and grew that lead to 6-2 by the half. In the third quarter, the Oilers continued to hold a four-goal lead heading into the final 15 minutes with a score of 9-5.  

Halfway through the final quarter, the Eagles tied the game 9-9 and with less than three minutes of play left, Ashland scored their final goal to take the lead- one the Oilers were never able to recover.

Findlay recorded 18 turnovers in the contest compared to Ashland's 16. The Oilers controlled the draw but Ashland outshot Findlay 29 to 22.  

Senior Danielle Dilorenzo led the Orange and Black, recording three goals, one assist, and seven draw controlsJunior Madeline Shewbridge scored one goal and had two assists. Senior Izzy Murphy-Morrow added one goal for the Oilers.  

Freshman Tessa Chuba and sophomore Olivia Alvarado both recorded two goals and an assist. Chuba also caused one turnover and had three draw controls while Alvarado had one groundball and five draw controls.  

Senior goalie Rachel Bornstein made eight saves and recorded six groundballs. 

The Oilers will be back in action Wednesday, April 12 when they play Walsh on the road at 4pm.
