Findlay Outlast Ashland | Face Walsh in G-MAC Finals

North Canton, Ohio - The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team advanced to the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship with a 12-10 win over Ashland University on May 4 in North Canton, Ohio. The victory gives the Oilers an 9-9 record on the season.

The Oilers scored the first two goals of the game off of free position shots and ended the first quarter with a 4-2 lead over Ashland. Findlay continued the second quarter scoring four more goals and only allowing the Eagles to find the back of the net twice more. Ashland had a very strong second half, tying the game with a free position shot in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough to defeat the Oilers as Madeline Shewbridge and Olivia Alvarado scored the last two goals of the game, securing Findlay's spot in the Championship game.

Freshman Tessa Chuba and sophomore Olivia Alvarado added two goals each to Findlay's score.

Chuba also had two groundballs and one draw control. Alvarado had a total of five draw controls and caused one turnover.

Junior Madeline Shewbridge found the back of the net twice during play and had one assist. Senior Danielle Dilorenzo was the top scorer of the game, making six shots, getting three groundballs and controlling nine draws.

Freshman Suvi Hollenbach was vital on defence having one groundball and causing a turnover. Senior Emma Heinrich had two groundballs and one draw control. Senior goalie Rachel Bornstein saved a total of six shots during play and had one groundball.

The Oilers will now play on May 6 in the championship game. The contest will begin at 11:30am in Canton, Ohio.
