Findlay Falls Short of Late Game Comeback | Season Ends in G-MAC Championship

Box Score

North Canton, Ohio- The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team fell 9-8 to the Walsh University Cavaliers in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship. The loss ends the Oilers season as they finish the year with a 9-10 record.

In their two meetings this season, the Cavaliers outscored the Oilers 28-16. It was Walsh who entered the game as the heavy favorites and the two-time defending conference champions. However, Findlay would not go down without a fight.

The contest started with back-and-forth action. Neither team pulled ahead until Walsh scored three consecutive goals to pull ahead. But unlike their previous contests against the Cavs, Findlay fought back. With the score at 6-2 early in the third quarter, the Orange and Black rallied scoring three to find themselves down just one goal.

For the remainder of the contest, the score stayed within two. Ultimately, the Oilers came up short of an underdog story.

Leading the offense for Findlay was standout senior Danielle Dilorenzo. In her last game of her career, she recorded two goals with six attempts on goal. She also picked up eight draw controls on the day. She ends the season with 144 draw controls- breaking the program record which was previously held by Kendra Lindell who recorded 134 in 2022.

Sophomore Olivia Alvarado recorded three goals. Seniors Emma Heinrich and Izzy Murphy-Morrow and freshman Tessa Chuba all had a goal apiece. Chuba caused two turnovers while also picking up three ground balls. Heinrich also had two caused turnovers while recording two ground balls.

In the goal, senior Rachel Bornstein recorded nine saves. She has amassed 509 saves in her career, the most in program history.

Quote from Head Coach Allison Kelly

Today's loss was disappointing but the comeback in the fourth quarter shows the passion and heart each and every one of them have. I am so proud of them and their growth this season.
