Roughnecks Host First Event of 2016 Season

Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay wrestling team will host its annual Findlay Open on Saturday, Nov. 19 in the Kohler Fitness and Recreation Center. 18 teams representing the three Nationals Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) divisions and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) will be in attendance. The event will begin at 9:00 am.

Through two events, Findlay has been led on the mats by sophomore Alonzo Turner. The Painesville, Ohio native has begun the season with a 5-2 record two tournaments at the 165 pound weight class. Turner went 2-2 and won the consolation bracket at the Eastern Michigan Open and came back the next weekend to go a perfect 3-0 and win the championship at the Ohio Intercollegiate Open. He is currently ranked seventh in the country in Division II at 165 pounds.

Senior Luke Fleming has posted a 5-3 record so far this seasonin the heavyweight class. His season began with a 2-2 record at Eastern Michigan, but he came back the next week to go 3-1 and take fifth place at the Ohio Intercollegiate Open. Fleming is currently ranked ninth in Division II.

Senior Bradley Metz is the final Roughneck to be in the top-ten in his weight class. Metz wrestles at 174 pounds and, despite not participating in an event yet this season, is ranked tenth in Division II.

Nationally Ranked Opponents:

Multiple teams in attendance have started their 2016-17 seasons with success and find themselves ranked as some of the top teams in the country. The highest ranked team in attendance is Mercyhurst University which is currently the fourth ranked team in Division II.

A pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) teams are next on the list as Tiffin University and Ashland University check-in as the number ten and eleven teams in the nation while Wheeling Jesuit and Lake Erie round out the list of ranked Division II teams at 19 and 22, respectively.
