Roughnecks Go 3-0 on First Day of Midwest Regional Duals

Belmont, NC - The University of Findlay wrestling team was on the road at the Midwest Regional Duals on Friday, Jan. 27. The Roughnecks, ranked seventh in the nation, were matched up in three dual events and won all three by an average of 22 points.

Findlay's first match came against UNC Pembroke, the 24th ranked team in the nation. The Orange and Black got wins at 133, 141, 149, 165, 197, and 285. Highlights included Devin Rogers' 16-0 blanking at 133, Nick Goebel's 16-1 route at 149, and pins from Chancellor Sonnenburg at 197 and Luke Fleming at 285 which ended the contest at 28-12 in favor of Findlay.

The Roughnecks' next contest was against Limestone. Findlay was in control from the start, losing just three of the ten bouts to win by a score of 27-7. Devin Rogers won at 133 by a score of 13-1 and Nick Goebel pitched another shutout at 149 pounds, defeating his opponent 16-0. Joey White then got a shutout of his own at 157 with a score of 2-0 and at 165, Alonzo Turner won 5-2. The final win came in at 285 when Mimmo Lytle pinned his opponent in just 2:56.

The final matchup of the day was against the host school, Belmont Abbey. Findlay dominated, winning all but one bout. Josh Wimer had a big win at 141, defeating his opponent 14-2 and Nick Goebel finally surrendered a point but still won by a decisive score of 27-8. At 174, Bradley Metz won 21-2 while Charles Wells III, Chancellor Sonnenburg, and Luke Fleming wrapped up with wins at 184, 197, and 285.
