Roughnecks Finish 6-0 at Midwest Region 2 Duals

Newberry, SC – The University of Findlay Roughnecks went 3-0 on the second day of the Midwest Region 2 Duals to give them a 6-0 record for the weekend as a team.

Findlay began the day with a big 40-3 victory over Coker College, losing just one of the ten matches. They came back with a 26-12 victory over King University and finished the day with a 21-10 over #18 Newberry College.

The Roughnecks had three athletes win each of their three bouts on the day. The first is sophomore Josh Wimer, ranked 12th in the country at 141-pounds. He won his first contest with an 11-6 decision and pinned his opponent in 4:27 in his second. Wimer finished the day with a 10-4 decision.

Nick Goebel, the top ranked wrestler in the nation at 149-pounds, began his day with a 17-1 tech fall over Bret Shurina. He came back with an 18-2 tech fall victory in his second bout and wrapped up the day with a tightly contested 6-3 victory over Austin Palmer of Newberry.

Joey White, ranked sixth at 157 pounds, also went 3-0 on the day, although his matches were much closer than Wimer and Goebel. He won his first bout 5-4 and won his second by a score of 3-1. He finished his day with a 4-1 decision.

The Roughnecks are back on the mat with a dual meet at #12 Ashland on Feb. 3. That contest will begin at 7:00 pm.
