Wimer Wins Regional Title for Roughnecks

Senior James Wimer led the way after capturing a regional title in the 157-pound weight class with a 3-0 record to advance to the national championship. After a bye, Wimer scored a 15-2, major decision victory against Lake Erie's Brandon Tenney in the quarterfinal before pinning Tiffin's Hunter Langeloh in 3:27 during the semifinal. He then posted a 6-1 win over Indianapolis' Dawson Combest in the final for his championship win.

Sophomore Branson Proudlock advanced to the national championship as well in the 141-pound weight class. Proudlock received a bye in the opening round and then scored a 6-2 win over West Liberty State's Marcus Jean-Baptiste in the quarterfinal. He then advanced to the final with a 6-5 victory against Ashland's Luke Wymer before falling in 2:44 to Notre Dame's Kelan McKenna in the final. Proudlock then won by no contest against Wymer in the second place match to advance.

Junior Mark Trifelos finished with a 3-2 record and narrowly missed out on the opportunity to compete for second place in the 174-pound weight class after dropping a 3-2 decision to West Liberty State's Ty McGeary in the third place match.

Wimer and Proudlock will now have a few weeks to prepare for the NCAA Division II National Championship, which will be held on Mar. 12-13 in St. Louis, Mo.
