Roughnecks Complete Day 1 at National Championship

The University of Findlay wrestling program completed day one of the NCAA Division II National Championship on March 12 in St. Louis, Mo. Senior James Wimer advanced to the semifinals while sophomore Branson Proudlock is still alive in the consolation bracket.

Wimer began the day with a 2-0 win over Saint Cloud State's Colby Njos in the 157-pound weight class before taking down Gannon's Nick Young by a score of 11-4 to reach the semifinals. He will face Central Oklahoma's Ty Lucas tomorrow for the right to compete for an individual title.

Proudlock began the event with a 4-1 win over King's Christian Small before losing 5-3 to Newberry's Isiah Royal. He then claimed a 7-5 win over Drury's Peter Kuster and will face Upper Iowa's Tate Murty tomorrow.
