Shore and Kowalski Advance to NCAA DII National Championship

Tiffin, Ohio – The University of Findlay wrestling team will be sending two athletes to the 2023 NCAA Division II National Championship after wrapping up the Super Region III Regional on Feb. 25.  

In the 125-pound weight class, junior Graham Shore took third place to earn his trip to the national championship. Shore finished the event with a 3-1 record, winning his third place match by sudden victory 3-1 over Lake Erie's Jacob Johnson. 

In the 197-pound weight class, junior Jacob Kowalski finished third to advance to nationals with a 4-1 record. He secured his trip the championship with a 4-2 victory over Bluefield State University's Gregory Dennard in the third place match. 

Junior Mason Kleinberg (149), junior Logan Sanom (157), sophomore Gary Nilson (157), and senior Mark Trifelos (184) narrowly missed out on advancing to the national championship with fourth place finishes in their respective weight classes. 

As a team, the Roughnecks finished third at the event with 104 points. West Liberty State University won the regional with 137.5 points while Lake Erie College finished second with 114.5 points. 

The 2023 NCAA Division II National Championship will take place on March 10-11 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
