Oilers Win 3-2 Over Unbeaten Grand Valley State

Box Score

The University of Findlay women's soccer team upset fourth-ranked Grand Valley State University by a score of 3-2 on Friday, Oct. 12 in Findlay, Ohio.

The Oilers, down 1-0 at the half, came out firing on all cylinders in the second half against the two-time national champions. Emily Beddoes tied the game just 51 seconds into the second half when she blistered a goal into the net from 25 yards out on a run down the right side of the field.

Then in the 54th minute, Ann Eichman was able to put Findlay in the lead off a cross from Katie Burke. The goal also marked the first time Grand Valley trailed in a game all season.

The Oilers were able to tack on their third goal of the contest when Beddoes found the back of the net once again off a botched goal kick in the 82nd minute.

The Lakers gave it one last run to close out the game, scoring in the 85th minute, but ultimately fell short for their first loss of the season.

The Oilers three goals in the game were one more than the Lakers have given up all season long.  The Lakers had allowed only two goals on the year and had been playing stellar defense.

Kelsea Corns picked up the victory in the net for the Oilers as she allowed two goals.  She was under pressure the entire game as the Lakers held a 15-8 advantage in the shot department.

With the win, the Oilers advance to 4-6-1 on the season with a 4-3-1 mark in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The Lakers dropped to 10-1-2 on the year with the loss.

Findlay's next contest will be against Ferris State University on Sunday, Oct. 14 in Findlay.
