Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay women's soccer team kicked off the 2018 season with a 1-0 win over the Urbana Blue Knights on Thursday, August 30 at DeHaven Field. With the win, the Oilers start their season with a 1-0 record, while the Blue Knights fall to 0-1.
There were six fouls in the first 20 minutes of play before freshman Olivia Frank found the back of the net for the Oilers in the 22nd minute. The goal was assisted by sophomore Shannon Marsh. That goal was the deciding factor, as neither team was able to score for the remainder of the game.
Frank finished with three shots, two of which were on goal while teammates Shannon Marsh and freshman Nikki Schuster had two shots a piece. The Oilers played aggressively, finishing with 13 fouls and 2 yellow cards, while Urbana had just 2 fouls.
Findlay finished with 10 shots as a team while Urbana managed just one. Junior Anna Money picked up a shutout in goal holding the Blue Knights scoreless for 90 minutes.
The Oilers are back on the pitch on Sunday, September 2 at 1:00 PM when they begin Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play against Kentucky Wesleyan.
