Oilers Knocked Out of G-MAC Tournament Semifinals
Dayton, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's soccer team was in Dayton for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship Tournament Final Four on Thursday, Nov. 14. Playing against the fourth-seeded Ohio Dominican Panthers, the top-seeded Oilers fell by a score of 1-0, just the second time this season that Findlay had gone scoreless in a game. With the loss, Findlay bows out of the tournament and now has a record of 14-2-1 while the Panthers move on to the championship game with a record of 11-6-2.
Both teams battled in the first half but neither was able to find the back of the net as the teams went into the half tied 0-0.
Just 21 seconds into the second half, Findlay's Jayla Campbell, who at last night's conference banquet was named G-MAC Freshman of the Year, fired a shot from 30 yards out that looked like it would put the Oilers on top, but a jumping save from ODU goalie Cecilia Kuntz kept the game locked.
The Panthers finally broke through in the 64th minute when Ashley Story headed the ball past Findlay's Anna Money on a corner kick to take a 1-0 lead.
Five minutes later, the Oilers had another scoring chance when first team all-conference forward Sierra Peacock took a shot that bounced off the crossbar of the goal and bounced away harmlessly. Findlay managed three more shots but none tickled the twine and the Panthers advanced to the G-MAC Championship with the upset.
Jayla Campbell led the team with four shots, two of which were on the net, while freshman Addie Graham and Sierra Peacock each took two for the Oilers who outshot the Panthers 12-to-9 in the contest.
Findlay's Anna Money took the loss in the net, allowing one goal in 90 minutes of action. She made three saves.
The Oilers, who came into the weekend ranked second in the latest regional poll, will now wait to see where they will play in the NCAA Division II Tournament. Should they stay ranked number two, Findlay will earn the right to host a first and second round contest. The selection show will air on Monday, November 18th at 6:00 pm on NCAA.com.
