Ward, Holmstrom, Weddington Qualify for Nationals

Sophomore Jessica Ward, sophomore Kaley Holmstrom and junior Ashleigh Weddington of the Oilers swimming and diving team will compete at the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championship.  The three athletes were selected on Feb. 26 to compete in the event, which will take place on March 12-15 in Geneva, Ohio.

Ward qualified two swim in two events.  She will compete in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke at the championship.

The Delaware, Ohio native had the 14th fastest time in the nation in the 100 at 56.16 and the 15th fastest time in the 200 at 2:02.04.  Her time in the 100-yard backstroke is a school record at Findlay.

Holmstrom will swim in the 200-yard IM after securing the 19th fastest time in the nation at 2:04.35.  She won a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) championship in the event and her mark is a school record at Findlay.

The Rutherfordton, N.C. native is a two-time All-American, earning those honors last year in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events.

Weddington qualified for the championship in the 3-meter dive as she set a new school record in the event earlier this year with 269.50 points.

In addition, junior Molly Cade is a third alternate in the 200-yard butterfly.  She holds a school record in the event at 2:04.40 and earned All-American honors in the event during the 2012 campaign.
