Oilers Complete Day 1 at BGSU

The University of Findlay women's tennis team began their season on Sep. 13 at the Bowling Green State University Invitational in Bowling Green, Ohio.

The Oilers showed well on the first day of competition as both Laiying Alvarado and Mady Arquette went 2-0 in singles competition.

Alvarado began the day in singles competition with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Oberlin's Dina Nouame and a 6-3, 6-3 win over Bowling Green's Marharita Tavpash. Arquette meanwhile scored a 6-0, 6-0 win over Tiffin's Bailey Young and won 6-2, 6-0 against Oberlin's Hannah Keidan. Alvarado also teamed with Samantha Sweet to capture a 6-2 win over Oberlin's Alandria Bellamy and Claudia Olaes in doubles action.

Laura Brito earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over Oberlin's Francesca Kern and lost 6-2, 6-4 to Oakland's Aarja Chakraborty. She also teamed with Eliza Kirov to claim a 6-2 victory against Kern and Isabelle Olaes in doubles competition.

Christina Nieto Sota won her opening match in singles competition by a score of 6-4, 6-4 against Olaes before falling 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to Northern Illinois' Julia Dmitriva. She also teamed with Taylor Lighty to fall 6-4 to Tsadari and Reynolds in doubles competition.

Lighty claimed an opening round victory in singles competition by scoring a 2-6, 6-0, 6-1 win over Olaes before falling 6-3, 6-3 against Northern Illinois' Lara Slisko.

Sweet went 0-1 with a 6-3, 6-4 loss to Oakland's Victoria Kurz in singles action while Kirov fell 6-1, 6-4 to Tiffin's Anais Geslin.

Luciana Pereyra fell 6-2, 6-1 to Oakland's Samantha Galloway and Kayley Gimbel lost 6-1, 6-4 to Oakland's Chelsea Dzenga.

The second day of competition will take place tomorrow.
