Kovacevic Leads Oilers | Makes Finals on Last Day at ITA Regional

Allendale, Mich. – The University of Findlay women's tennis team wrapped up play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional on Monday, Sep. 26 in Allendale, Michigan.

Freshman Anamarija Kovacevic was the headliner for Findlay as the tournament came to a close. Kovacevic teamed up with sophomore Elina Ivanova to win their match in the Round of 16, defeating a duo from Southwest Baptist by a score of 8-2 to move on to the quarterfinals of the 'A' doubles tournament. Kovacevic and Ivanova were beaten by Grand Valley State's Vasileia Griva and Taylor Barrett by a score of 8-2. That team from GVSU made the finals and finished as tournament runners-up.

Kovacevic was not done though as her run in the 'B' singles bracket gave the Oilers their deepest run in any of the brackets. Findlay's standout freshman won 6-2, 7-5 in her Round of 16 matchup and then dominated in her quarterfinal, winning 6-1, 6-1. In the semifinal, she faced Jessica Peace of Tiffin University and beat her fellow Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) opponent in a tie breaker, 4-6, 6-0 (10-3). In the 'B' singles finals, however, her run came to an end as she fell 6-2, 6-4 to Grand Valley State's Anna Soteras.
