Findlay Picks Up 4-1 Victory Over Northwood | Win Streak Reaches Seven

Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's tennis team, ranked #27 in the country in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), picked up an important Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) on Saturday, March 18. The Oilers came away with 4-1 victory over conference newcomer Northwood University to improve to 10-4 on the year while extending their win streak to seven.

Quotes from Coach Westmeyer

Northwood is a very good team that won a share of the GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) title last year and has had a long tradition of success. We knew they were going to be ready to play, especially with this being their first conference match in the G-MAC.

Either team could have won this match, and for us to have the mental toughness to pull out the victory will only give us more confidence as we continue on in conference play.

Findlay began by winning the doubles point, picking up wins at first and third doubles.

In the singles portion of the match, Elina Ivanova made quick work of her opponent, winning 6-4, 6-1 in a match that took just over an hour.

Northwood picked up a win at fourth singles to make the score 2-1, but the Oilers won two marathon matches to secure the win.

The first was a win at second singles by Anamarija Kovacevic who won a two-and-a-half hour match after dropping the first set 6-3. She won the second 6-4 and, after trailing 5-4 in the third set, went on to win the next three games to win the set 7-5, taking the match.

Emily Hadler clinched the victory at third singles in a match that lasted almost three hours. She won the first set 6-3 before dropping the second. The third set went to a first-to-seven tiebreaker which Hadler won 7-5, taking the third set 7-6 (7-5), giving Findlay the win over the Timberwolves.
