Oilers win third straight

The women's volleyball team took their winning ways on the road on Tuesday, traveling to Urbana University to claim a 3-0 win over the Blue Knights.

The Oilers won by scores of 25-20, 25-21, 25-23 to extend their winning streak to three games. Findlay improves to 6-2 on the season and Urbana drops to 3-7.

Findlay jumped out to early leads in the first two sets, but trailed 21-22 in set three before putting on a late push to win the set. Libero Rachael Hammond closed out the game with an ace that barely cleared the net before it dropped in front of the Blue Knights' defenders.

Redshirt freshman Bethany Hoelscher provided the firepower for the Oilers, putting down 10 kills in 24 attempts. Jessica VonIns continued her offensive ways with a .333 hitting percentage with 8 kills. She also tallied 18 assists for Findlay.

Urbana got the bulk of its offensive production from senior Brittney Bradner who finished the night with 12 kills and two aces. Outside hitter Liz Maute contributed 7 kills for the Blue Knights.

The Oilers won the battle at the net, claiming 7.5 team blocks to the Blue Knights' six. Urbana held the defensive advantage though, outdigging Findlay 54-47.

Senior Abby LaVigne led the Oilers with 13 digs and setter Megan Florence served two aces. Urbana libero Chelsie Snively led all players with 19 digs.

The Oilers are back on the road this week with GLIAC matches at Tiffin University on Wednesday and Ohio Dominican on Friday.
