Wayne drops Findlay 3-1

The women's volleyball team dropped a close contest to Wayne State on Friday 3-1.

The two teams battled throughout the first set, with neither team holding an advantage of more than 2 points until Katarzyna Sak served three straight points to give Wayne a 25-23 victory in the set.

The Oilers responded in the second set behind strong offensive performances by Danielle Taflinger and Bethany Hoelscher, both of whom notched four kills. Megan Florence served an ace at game point to close out a 25-22 win for Findlay.

After the break Wayne opened up with three straight points off of two kills from Sak and a Findlay attack error. The Warriors opened up a 18-10 gap before the Findlay offense showed some life. The Oilers put on a late push but were unable to hold of the Warriors, falling 25-15 in set three.

Wayne State took advantage of five Oiler misses behind the service line early in set four, opening up a 13-8 lead. The Oilers responded this time, tying the set at 20 before Sak rattled off three kills to end the match, 25-23.

Taflinger led all hitters with 14 kills, and Hoelscher added 13. Florence dished out 28 assists. Sak led Wayne State with 13 kills and Madie Kent contributed 12. Sak also unloaded 4 aces.

Wayne moves to 8-5 on the year (6-3 GLIAC) and Findlay drops to 7-7 (3-5 GLIAC). The Oilers are back in action on Sunday, taking on #14 Hillsdale at 2 p.m.
