Oilers Suffer 1st GLIAC Loss at Hillsdale

The University of Findlay volleyball team dropped their Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) matchup with Hillsdale College on Tuesday, September 23 by a 3-0 (25-23, 25-12, 25-13) final. The loss was their first this year in the conference as they fell to 6-3 overall with a 4-1 mark in the GLIAC.

Sophomore Hannah Tong led the offensive attack as she racked up nine kills in the three-set loss. Red-shirt freshman Nickyla Garverick was second on the team as she picked up five kills. The middle-blocker, who leads the nation in blocks per set, added to her block total with two.

Senior Amanda Calhoun led the team in assists as she collected 18 in the match. Calhoun also served well as she aced the Chargers four times.

Becca Shoemaker led the defense as she scampered for 13 digs.

The Oilers, who as a team lead the nation in blocks per set, will next be in action again this Friday, September 26 at 7pm in Houghton, Mich. as they take on GLIAC foe Michigan Tech.
